Guardian Angel Window Guards can now be used in single/double hung windows and in casement/sliding windows. Double hung windows are windows that open up and down. Guardian Angel window guards for double hung windows run horizontally and are measured in width. The bars telescope to fit various window widths. For example, the 2335 model expands to fit a window width from 23 to 35 inches. Owners of casement and sliding windows should not install the Guardian Angel Window Guard with the sliding bars positioned horizontally. A child could use the guard as a ladder and fall through the unguarded area. Casement and sliding window openings must be covered completely, from the bottom to the top of the window opening using vertical mounting of the guards.

Guards are available with different end post sizes as follows:

  • 3 Bars: Length of endpost is 13 inches. Maximum window opening is 17.25 inches
  • 4 Bars: Length of endpost is 17.375 inches. Maximum window opening is 21.5 inches
  • 5 Bars: Length of endpost is 21.75 inches. Maximum window opening is 26 inches

There are 6 widths available, see chart below. If your window width falls right on the edge of a range, it is better to go with the guard in the larger width range. For example, if the width you want to cover is 23 inches, go with the 23 to 35 inch model (2335-xx).

Designed to conform to the safety standards for window fall prevention devices set forth by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM F2090-01a), and recognized by the U.S. Consumer Products and Safety Commission.

  • Diameter of large bar is 5/8 inch
  • Diameter of small bar is 1/2 inch
  • Horizontal bars (large and small) telescope to fit various window widths
  • Window openings should not exceed 4 inches above the top horizontal bar (as indicated on the guard by an arrow)
  • Emergency release button (each guard has 4)
  • Each end post is 3/4 inch wide x 3/4 inch deep
  • End posts screw into window frame or molding from sides or front (4 screws per guard)

Never mount telescoping bars horizontally in a sliding or casement window!

    CASEMENT AND SLIDER WINDOW GUARDS

You may need more than one guard to cover the width of your window. The vertical window guards can be installed next to each other.

Guards come with 3, 4, or 5 vertical bars and these bars telescope to fit various window heights. The examples following are the 3558 model, which expands from 35 to 58 inches high.

The last two digits in the model number stand for the number of emergency release buttons and number of bars, respectively. For example, the 3558-43 model expands 35 to 58 inches in height, has 4 emergency release buttons and three bars.

There are 6 heights available, see chart below. If your window height falls right on the edge of a range, it is better to go with the larger height range. For example, if the height you want to cover is 23 inches, go with the 23 to 35 inch model.

Never mount telescoping bars horizontally in a sliding or casement window!

Telescoping bars can only be mounted horizontally in double-hung windows. When mounted horizontally in sliding and casement windows, the window guard can act as a ladder and greatly increase the risk of an accidental window fall.

For casement and sliding windows, guards must be mounted with the telescoping bars in a vertical position. Refer to installation instructions and specifications below for these types of windows.

  • Diameter of small bar is 1/2 inch

  • Each end post is 3/4 inch wide x 3/4 inch deep

      News
    07/20/2010
Open windows are potential safety hazards for young children. In recent weeks, several children have fallen from un-guarded windows opened due to nationwide heat waves. U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) data indicates an estimated 3,300 children five years old and younger are treated each year in U.S. hospital emergency departments due to window falls.

Deaths and injuries frequently occur when kids push themselves against window screens or climb onto furniture located next to an open window. Window falls increase dramatically during the spring and summer months but are preventable with window guards like the Guardian Angel Window Guard. Active parental or caregiver supervision and the installation of window guards helps prevent window fall injuries. Screens are only meant to keep bugs out and can not support the weight of a child. Window guards are easy to install and have a release mechanism in the event of an emergency.

To help prevent injuries and tragedies, CPSC recommends the following tips. Use window guards or window stops. Never depend on screens to keep children from falling out of windows. Whenever possible, open windows from the top -- not the bottom. Keep furniture away from windows, to discourage children from climbing near windows. Some jurisdictions require landlords to install guards. Check your local regulations.
